Janet R. Douglas
Jan Douglas is the founder and principal of the Symbiocon Group, a national network of consultants who specialize in Human Capital Risk Management. Symbiocon brings together experienced independent consultants who work either individually or in teams to bring creative solutions to problems affecting a client’s workforce. Areas of focus include health and productivity; occupational health and safety; aging workforce, clinical risk management, and training for managers and supervisors in Workers' Compensation, Disability and Absence Management.
Douglas serves as a member of the Dean's Advisory Council of the University of Illinois, School of Public Health; Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the United Nations Association of Greater Chicago; a member of the Advisory Board of the National Institute of Disability, Rehabilitation and Research (NIDDR) Robotics program, and a member of the Board of Disability Management Employer Coalition.
Past Experience:
Douglas was, formerly, a managing director of the Midwest Region of Marsh USA Inc. She was the Consulting Manager for the Chicago Partnership of Marsh responsible for a broad range of services in Workforce Strategies, Health Care; Operations and Asset Management and Environmental Consulting. Additionally, she served as Business Leader for a joint venture between Marsh Risk Consulting and Mercer Human Resource Consulting, specializing in the design and evaluation of integrated programs to manage both occupational and non-occupational disability and absence.
Prior to Marsh, Douglas was the President of IntegraComp LLC, a consulting company providing services to employers, carriers and TPAs. Previously, Douglas was a Director, Employee Benefits Services, Price Waterhouse LLP and a Principal with Mercer Human Resources Consulting.
Other positions held by Douglas include consulting assignments with the United Nation World Health Organization in Africa and Asia; Director of Occupational Therapy at the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital, London, England; Director of Occupational Therapy Education at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago; Director, Occupational Health Services, Grant Hospital of Chicago.
Education:
Douglas holds a master's of public health from the University of Illinois and dual diplomas in psychiatry and occupational therapy for physical dysfunction from St. Andrew's University, United Kingdom.
